High Temperature Paint Masking, a critical component in finishing operations, is a term covering a variety of materials, products, and applications. It includes the use of protective masks that cover raised areas, or the grounding area around studs and holes, during painting, powder coating, electrocoating, electroplating, anodizing, and many more finishing operations.
Polyester high temperature paint masks are made of a thin film and silicone adhesive. They are widely used in the forms of tape and disks, which are 2 mils thick. These masks withstand temperatures up to 425 degrees, and are resistant to fumes and chemicals. Polyester tapes and Polyester discs are desirable because they leave sharp and distinct line separations without residue, and they are easily removable. Polyester high temperature paint masks are often used for powder coating, electroplating, chrome plating, and anodizing.
Kapton high temperature paint masks also come in the forms of tape and discs, however, they are 1 mil thick. They can withstand temperatures up to 500 degrees continuously, making them a popular choice for powder coating and solder waving. Kapton high temperature paint masks, just like Polyester, leave sharp and distinct line separation without any residue.
